Alicia (nee:Vega) Velez, 74, of Bayonne, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 with her loving family by her side.
At the age of 13 Alicia came to Jersey City from her native Penuela, Puerto Rico before settling in Bayonne for the past 47 years. Alicia’s strong work ethic was one of her defining qualities. She successfully operated her own vending company selling a product she formulated while living in Pueto Rico called “A Piragua”, a type of snow cone topped with different flavor assortments. Alicia ultimately took up knitting in her spare time where her creative talents were shared and treasured by everyone. Alicia will be remembered for her devotion to her family and will be deeply missed by all. She was pedeceased by her beloved husband Honorio Velez; her parents, Manuel Vega and Maria (De La Cruze Rosario) Velez; and many sisters and brothers. Left to cherish her memory are her 5 daughters, Crystal Peralta and her husband Jason, Maria, Marisol, and Aurea Velez and Yecentia Corro; 1 son Honorio Velez; 2 Sisters, 2 brothers, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home, 20 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, on Friday, July 28, from 9:00 am to 11:45 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
