Casimir Szefler Obituary

 

Casimir A. Szefler96, of Bayonne, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Bayonne Medical Center.

Born in 1921 in Bayonne to parents who emigrated to the United States from Poland, Casimir grew up in the area of Linnet Street.  

Casimir served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII, earning the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and the European African Eastern Ribbon. Casimir was a life member of the Military Order of Purple Heart.  In 2010, he received the Legion of Honor Chevalier (Knight) award, France’s highest civilian award. It is France’s equivalent to our Medal of Honor. 
 

After completing his military service, Casimir worked as an electrician for 32 years with the Shell Oil Refinery in Sewaren, NJ, retiring in 1983.

Casimir was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Mary (Kowalska); his sister Hedwig Wisniewski and his two brothers, Adam and Joseph Szefler. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Mary Rath and Martha Carpenter, his brother John, and many nieces and nephews.

A visiation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 14, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Everyone is asked to assemble at St. John Paul II Parish, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, on Thursday, March 15, at 9:45 am for a funeral mass in Casimir’s honor.  Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, N.J.
