Emily Zaremski (nee Chmiel) age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 2, 2018.
A homemaker, Emily loved Bayonne where she resided her entire life and never thought of living anywhere else. Her family owned and operated Sloppy Joe's on the east side of Bayonne. Her uncle, Joe Chmiel, owned the restaurant and her father, brother, aunt Jean and uncles Stanley and Ziggy kept it running. Greasy fries anyone??
During the war, Emily worked at the Naval Base. Later she worked at Maidenform, McCrory's and the Bayonne Community News. She enjoyed the parties at the 56th Street Senior Center and her Fridays at Pert & Pretty catching up on the "local news".
Emily was a sweet woman and most will remember her for her beautiful blue eyes, wonderful smile and outstanding pierogis, while her neighbors will remember her for the meticulous care she took of the sidewalk and street where she lived, faithfully sweeping no matter the season.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ted, whom she adored, her parents, Walter and Helen (Ziobro); siblings, Jeanette Chmiel, Joseph, Matilda Thomas and Albina Filipkowski, and granddaughter, Dawn Rusnak.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Diane Rusnak, Janice Dean, Elaine Sharkey and Lori Bechtold, grandchildren, Robert and David Rusnak and Courtney Bechtold, sisters in law, Irene Hyszczak and Dolores Plutnicki. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 7, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Everyone is asked to meet at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Thursday, November 8, at 9:45 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. mass. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home on Thursday morning.
