Obituary

John M. Baran, age 79, of Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, formerly of Bayonne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 1, 2020, at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania with his loving family by his side.  John was born in Plains, Pennsylvania before moving to Bayonne, where he resided for 38 years, he then settle in Tobyhanna, where he resided for the past 23 years. John was employed as an assembler for the General Motors Corporation in Linden for 38 years, retiring in 1996. 

John’s extreme compassion for others fueled his drive to support several charitable organizations throughout the years which included, The Children’s Hospital, the ASPCA, Cancer Research, and various other institutions.  He was an avid Yankees fan and loved taking long walks through the hills of Pennsylvania with his dog Aflac. John’s quick wit and great sense of humor will be remembered as one of his best characteristic traits.  He had the ability to take apart and fix just about any electronic device he put his mind to as well as enjoying the challenges of finding out how they operated.  

John was predeceased by his parents Francis and Helen (Laboda) Baran, his sister Connie Lago (Baran), and his brother Frank Baran. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Diane Baran and her fiancé Joe Barbieri, sons John Baran and his wife Cindy, Chris Baran and his wife Donna, his longtime companion, Nydia  Robles, one sister Florence Smith, grandchildren, Tommy, Rebecca, Jessica, Justin, Jonathan, Summer and Zack Baran, and two great-grandchildren, and his canine buddy, Aflac.

A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral mass in John’s honor will be offered on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at 10:00 am, from the Parish of St. John Paul II at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, NJ. Cremation will be private.
