Kathleen I Matos

Kathleen I. Matos (nee: Garrison), 66, of Bayonne, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Jersey City Medical Center.  

“Kathy”, as she was known by all, was born in Jersey City and has resided most of her life in Bayonne.  She was employed as a clerk for the Inserra Shoprite Supermarket in Bayonne for 17 years prior to her retirement in 2008.

Kathy’s example in life inspired everyone around her and her devotion to her family was immeasurable. She had an unwavering support for her children’s participation with the Bayonne Kidets Drum and Bugel Corps. where she happily chaperoned countless trips and parades throughout the years. She had a natural talent for sewing, and delighted in making color guard uniforms and all of her grandchildren, great nieces, and great nephews baptismal gowns and Halloween costumes. Kathy was an excellent cook and treasured times spent at holiday gathering and special events.  

Kathy was predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret (Callan) Garrison and her siblings, Regina Knueppel and Ronald and Richard Garrison. Left to cherish her wonderful legacy are her loving husband of 49 years, Juan Matos; 2 daughters, Debra Wagner and her husband Stanley; Kelly Ann Matos and her longtime companion Frank Giordano; her son John Matos and his wife Michele;  5 adored grandchildren, David Jessica, Kathleen, Shannon and Matthew and 1 great-grandchild Christian.

A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 6, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a religious service held at 7:30  pm by the Reverend John Fencik, Pastor of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church of Bayonne. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation to Kathy's family would be most appreciated.
