Walter E. Schmidt

Walter E. Schmidt, 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2017 with his loving family by his side.  Born in Jersey City, Walter has resided most of his life in Bayonne. He was employed as a car inspector with NJ Transit, a position he held for more than 33 years.

Walter had a true zest for life and his interests were both vast & passionate. His favorite pastimes included fishing trips with his buddies, listening to every Beatles song ever made, and playing the Lottery Pick 4 with his friend Diedre. Walter was an admirer of hot rods and antique cars, and after his retirement had a dream of restoring them to their natural beauty.  A patriotic man, Walter had a deep respect for our troops and supported them with pride. He was the heart and soul of his family and had an undeniable love for them. He will be missed and remembered for his great sense of humor and willingness to go the extra mile to help others.

Walter was predeceased by his parents, William T. Schmidt and Dorothy A. (Kimball) Schmidt, and his brother William Schmidt. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Alice Vetter and her husband Anthony; his brother Robert Schmidt; his cousin Barbara; 2 nieces, Diana and Ashley Farrell, and 1 grand-nephew Benjamin.

A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral mass in Walter’s honor will be offered on Thursday, August 31, at 10:00 am at St. John Paul II Parish. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
