Albert M. Van Der Merwede

February 4, 1946 ~ February 12, 2023 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Obituary

Albert M. Van Der Merwede, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

Born in Teaneck, NJ, Albert lived in Upper Saddle River for most of his life before moving to Great Meadows for the past year and a half.

Albert served his country with pride and honor in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  After completing his military service he began a long and successful career in telecommunications as a sales representative for the Newbridge Networks Corporation in Ottowa, Canada.

Albert's love for the great outdoors was highlighted by his passion for fly fishing which took him to great distances through various lakes and streams.   He also took immense joy vacationing in Williamsburg, Virginia, and Maui, Hawaii which were two of his all-time favorite travel destinations.  In his spare time, he enjoyed putting his skill in cooking and baking to work which was demonstrated through his outstanding recipes.
In his quiet time, Albert appreciated the comforts of home reading many fascinating fantasy novels, and had a fondness for building model airplanes and electric trains.  It was no secret that Albert's passion for action movies ran deep as he was a firm believer that "Sean Connery was the true and only James Bond."

Loving son of the late John and Judy (Trotta) Merwede.  Left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Christopher Merwede and his wife Robyn, and Gregory and Jeff Merwede; his four adored grandchildren, Cloe, Max, Whitney, and Kiera Merwede, and his brother, Jack Merwede.

Cremation was private.  A memorial mass in Albert's honor will take place at a date to be announced.

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow

of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering

softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times

And bright and sunny days

I’d like the tears of those who grieve,

To dry before the sun

Of happy memories that I leave

When life is done
