Barbara (Lagus) Brett

Barbara Ann Brett (nee: Lagus), 84, a lifelong resident of Bayonne, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  

Barbara was employed at Maidenform, Inc. from 1982 until her retirement in 2001. 
With leadership and genuine compassion in her heart, Barbara was a member of several community and volunteer organizations including President, Vice-President, and Secretary of the Adult-Child Bowling League and Barbara Brett's Invitational League.  Her passion for humanity inspired her to devote her time to the Barrier Free Club, an organization focused on helping those with intellectual disabilities and special needs.  An avid bowler, she was Secretary for the Hudson Ability Bowling League from 1986 until her passing.

Barbara had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest.  She was the ultimate hostess who loved to entertain her family and friends no matter what the occasion.  She was affectionately known as a "card shark" with nothing more gratifying to her than playing a good game of cards while enjoying a cocktail. With a love for the theater, she never missed an opportunity to see a Broadway play. 

Barbara's joyful spirit was her gift to the countless lives she touched.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends but her legacy of love will flourish in their hearts for all eternity.  

Barbara was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband of 27 years, Thomas Richard Brett, Sr., (in 1982) her parents, Anne Lagus (Lewandowski) and John Richard Lagus, and two daughters, Arleen (Brett) Serkin, (known to all as Leena) and Linda (Brett) Killmer and her sister, Lorraine (Lagus) Demitus. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Thomas Richard Brett, Jr., and her daughter, Lori Brett; two granddaughters, Angela (Killmer) Sanniola and her husband Timothy, and Fallon Killmer, and her two adored great-grandsons, Jakob Michael and Evan Brett Sanniola, and her son-in-law, Mike Killmer. Also survived by many favorite cousins, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, her loving goddaughter Joy Marie Penaskovic, and her dear lifelong friend, Frances Marie (Henner) Thompson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 1, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.  A funeral mass in Barbara's honor will be held on Thursday, June 2, at 11:00 am at St. John Paul II Parish, officiated by Fr. Lukasz Kleczka.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

Please note: There will be no visitation at the funeral home on Thursday morning. Everyone is asked to meet at church by 10:45 a.m.
