Bertha Kubis Obituary

Bertha E. Kubis, entered into eternal rest peacefully on November 23, 2024 at the blessed age of 99.

After graduating from Bayonne High School, Bertha worked as a telephone operator at Western Electric Company in Kearny, NJ. She then transitioned to a position at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City before ultimately embracing the rewarding role of a homemaker, dedicating herself to raising her daughter and creating a loving and nurturing environment. Bertha was a doting grandmother who treasured every moment spent with her three grandchildren. Whether they visited her or she traveled to see them, her heart would glow with sheer delight.

In her leisure time Bertha enjoyed watching soap operas along with bus trips and drives to Atlantic City with her husband Joseph. Both were passionate supporters of the New York Mets, eagerly rooting for their team from the comfort of their home and experiencing the thrilling atmosphere of live games at the stadium. Bertha loved vacationing in Wildwood, NJ, where her family created unforgettable memories filled with laughter and togetherness.

For 13 wonderful years, Bertha experienced true happiness at Foothill Acres Nursing Home, a place where she formed lasting friendships that enriched her life. The variety of engaging activities, particularly the lively Bingo games, filled her days with joy and cheer, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

As we bid farewell to Bertha, we honor a life richly lived. Her vibrant spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of her loving family and all of us who had the privilege of knowing her.

Bertha was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband, Joseph J. Kubis (2010), her parents, Stanley and Ursula Spozdaial, and her sister, Josephine Hoblock and her husband, Frederick. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carol Basile and her husband, Nicholas, and her adored grandchildren, Christopher (Esther), Eric (Anna), and Nicole (Andre).

A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, December 1, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. A funeral mass  will be offered on Monday, December 2, at St. John Paul II Parish at 10:30 am. (There will be no visitation at the funeral home on Monday morning.) Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Bertha. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on,

Let me stand, I am tired, I am weak,

I am worn; thru the storm, thru the night,

precious Lord, Lead me home.

When my way grows drear,

precious Lord, linger near,

When my life is almost gone,

Hear my cry, hear my call,

Hold my hand lest I fall, take my hand

precious Lord, Take me home.

When the darkness appears and

the night draws near, And the day is past and gone,

at the river I stand, Guide my feet,

hold my hand, Take my hand,

precious Lord, Lead me home.
