Bobbiegita Walker peacefully departed this world on December 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in the serene town of Casadero, California, Bob spent 60 years in College Point, Queens, before moving to Bayonne to be near his daughter and son-in-law. From an early age, Bob uncovered a deep passion for art that not only transformed his life but also served as a powerful outlet for creative expression. This pursuit brought him immense joy and provided a deep sense of solace, ultimately helping to shape his identity in meaningful ways.
A graduate of the prestigious Academy of Art in San Francisco with a degree in Fine Arts, Bob became a beloved figure in the art community. His vibrant illustrations captured everyday life and preserved special moments that resonated with many people.
Bob continually explored new ways to channel his creativity and discover who he was as an artist. He held positions on Madison Avenue in New York City, where he gained recognition for his impressive advertising campaigns. As one of the youngest art directors in the business, he played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of several magazines, such as SEARCH and Scholastic Magazine, all while refining his unique artistic skills. In 1972, Bob became a successful advertising professional at BBDO, working alongside industry giant and renowned slogan creator James Jordan. Some of his notable advertising work included campaigns for Nestlé Crunch, Doritos, Chiquita Banana, Schlitz Brewing Company, Old Taylor, Western Electric, The Bowery, and Thom McAn Shoes.
Bob devoted his free time to other interests, including sculpting. In 1982, he met and collaborated with iconic composer and pianist Eubie Blake on a larger-than-life bust presented at Blake's 99th birthday party. The remarkable piece was gifted to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American Culture in 2016. In addition, he crafted a striking bronze cast of Blake's hands, symbolizing the artistry and passion behind his work.
Bob's life was enriched by his soulmate, Barbara Ann, as they crafted a lifetime of cherished memories together. Their remarkable 61 years of marriage were highlighted by their joy as proud parents to two daughters, Bovagita and Jennifer. Together, they embraced a passionate love of travel that opened up new horizons, including several unforgettable years spent in London. Their passion for sailing flourished as they owned a catamaran, navigating the waters together and reveling in bareboating adventures across the Virgin and Greek Islands. The love between Bob and Barbara Ann was profound, reflecting the depth and beauty of the ocean they sailed together.
Bob leaves an extraordinary legacy that will be etched in the hearts of many and stands as a testament to the lasting impact one exceptional individual can have on the world, reminding us of the beauty that creativity and love can bring.
