Carmen Nieves, proud and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2023. Born in Puerto Rico on February 19, 1946, she settled in Bayonne 8 years ago.
Before her retirement in 2008, she worked as an environmental specialist for Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, a position she held for over 25 years.
Carmen left an impact on the lives of her family that was immeasurable. She instilled the virtues of kindness and compassion that will forever be a testament to her unwavering love for them. She held a deep affection for animals and doted on her precious cat and constant companion, Simba.
In her free time, Carmen pursued many hobbies and interests such as doing crossword puzzles, playing games on her tablet, shopping, knitting, and going to the casinos. She also took joy in cooking as well as spending time in the comfort of her home watching TV.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gisela Velez-Rivera, her son-in-law Eric, and Beatrize and Jessica Velez; her grandchildren, Trevor, Yomayra, Brianna, Eric Jr., and Emma; her great-grandchildren Athena and Scarlet; her nieces, Bibi and Diana, grandniece Shana, and great-grandnephew Zayn.
While Carmen's departure leaves a void in the lives of her loved ones, they take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her parents, Raul Nieves Cuevas and Carmela Nieves, and her dearly beloved son, Angel Antonio Velez. May she rest in eternal peace while her beautiful spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, October 14, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Cremation will be held on Monday, October 16, at Rosehill Crematory in Linden, NJ.
MISS ME BUT LET ME GO
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little - but not for long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me, but let me go.
For this journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me, but let me go.
