It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debra Smith, a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, who peacefully departed this world on October 1, 2023. “Debbie” as she was affectionately known, was a lifelong resident of Bayonne and a point of strength and love for her family and friends.
Debbie found joy in life’s simple pleasures, this included good conversation over a bagel and coffee, shopping for pocketbooks, walking Broadway, often grabbing a slice at Pizza Master and a sweet treat from Carvel. She had a deep affection for animals, enjoyed listening to 80’s music, particularly Boy George and Cyndi Lauper and embodied a festive spirit during the holiday season with Halloween being her all-time favorite.
Family meant everything to Debbie, and she found immense joy in the company of her grandchildren, who brought endless smiles to her face. Debbie’s warm heart and nurturing spirit touched the lives of everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Debbie is survived by her devoted daughter Krystle and her son-in-law Ryan, her beloved son Kenneth, cherished daughter Kerry, and her adored grandchildren, Abigail, Andrew, Noah and Niko. She also leaves behind her caring sister Carol Donoughe, brother-in-law Billy D. and her prized nephew Al Silon and his wife, Vicki.
Debbie’s departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will forever live on, in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering love, and her ability to find joy in the little things. She is now at peace and reunited with her husband Kenneth Smith (Smitty) and her mother, Anna Brozowski.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, October 5th from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday October 6th at 10:30 a.m. from the Parish of St. John Paul II at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
Debbie's family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her family and friends find solace in the beautiful memories they shared with her. In honor of her memory, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. This gesture will ensure that her legacy of kindness and compassion lives on, touching the lives of others in need, just as she did during her lifetime.
Safely Home
I am home in heaven, dear ones;
oh, so happy and so bright!
There is a perfect joy and
beauty in the everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
safely home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
so you must not idly stand,
do it now, while life remaineth–
you shall rest in God’s own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
oh, the rapture of that meeting
oh, the joy to see you come!
