Dr. Martin W. Pollini, age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the Chelsea Tinton Falls Assisted Living Community in Tinton Falls, NJ.
Dr. Pollini was born on January 30, 1927, to parents, Martin and Mary Pollini, and has resided most of his life in Bayonne. He graduated from Bayonne High School then entered the St. Peter’s College accelerated 2-year war-time program, graduating in 1945. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII. After completing his military duties he studied medicine at NYU, graduating in 1951, and completed residency at Jersey City Medical Center, where he became Chief Resident of Cardiology. A registered staff officer of the Merchant Marine, Dr. Pollini served as a Ship’s Surgeon prior to opening his Bayonne medical practice in Internal Medicine, which he maintained until retirement in 1995. As a specialist in cardiology he also worked as an employee of Hudson County reading electrocardiograms, and was involved in the early stages of validating early systems to provide automated analysis of the tests.
During his retirement years he enjoyed puzzles and Sudokus well into his 80's.
Married in 1961, he was predeceased by his dearly beloved wife Elizabeth Claire Czajkowski, and his parents, Martin and Mary (nee: Lipnicki) Pollini. Left to cherish his memory are his son Gregory P. Pollini, Ph.D. and daughter-in-law Jian Cai, two adored grandchildren, Anna and Erik C. Pollini, his nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, services and interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will be private.
