Edward B. Dobies, age 96, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Bayonne, Edward served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII, attaining the rank of Corporal and Military Police Officer. Known for his strong work ethic and natural sense of leadership, he began a 30-year career as a supervisor with the Transo Envelope Company in Jersey City.
Following his retirement in 1998, Ed and his wife, along with their dear friends, enjoyed taking cruises and traveling abroad to destinations which included Poland, Spain, and Rome, Italy, as well as memorable trips to his all-time favorite place to be with his family, "Disneyworld".
A lifelong active parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Ed lived a life that revolved around his deep and abiding faith in the Lord. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Church Parish Council and served as trustee, lector, Eucharistic minister, and usher. He was also a longtime active member of the Holy Name Society, the Mt. Carmel Seniors, the Mt. Carmel Lyceum (where he was a skilled bowler), and The Bayonne Knights of Columbus Council #371. As an avid gardener, Ed's green thumb worked magic in his vegetable garden and his beautiful array of flowers which he enjoyed maintaining over the years.
Ed will be missed and remembered for his friendly smile, gentle presence, and above all else the love and adoration he had for his family. He was a devoted husband who treasured the 72 glorious years of marriage he shared with his wife Florence. He was a proud father and adored Dziadzi to his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought absolute warmth to his heart. The world is a little less bright without Ed, but his legacy will forever live on in every life he has ever enriched.
Left to cherish his memory are his dearly beloved wife Florence (Kotula) Dobies, daughter Monica Petela (Stephen) and son Joseph Dobies (Linda); grandchildren, Jason Dobies, Michelle McEvoy, Jean Provance, Erica Petela, and Jeffrey Petela; great-grandchildren, Emerson Provance Reid, Temperance Provance Reid, Austin Dobies, Leanne Dobies, and two sets of twins, Ryan and Kennedy McEvoy, and Liam and Declan McEvoy. Predeceased by parents, Joseph and Maryann (Rutkowski) Dobies as well as his brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Monday, April 17, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass in Edward's honor will be held on Tuesday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. from the Parish of St. John Paul II at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, with Monsignor Anthony Kulig officiating and Father Zenon Boczek as co-concelebrant. Interment will follow at the family burial plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ where Ed will be laid to rest.
