Elba T. Bonner (nee: Correa), passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Bear, Delaware on October, 24, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
“Taly” as she was affectionately known by all, immigrated to the United States from Chile in 1963 spending the past 58 years in Bayonne. Upon her arrival to the U.S. she became fluent in the English language. She had an incredible work ethic and began working at Two Guys Department Store in Jersey City. She then worked at the Jewish Home Rehabilitation in Jersey City, where she made lifelong friends. Her career there spanned more than 25 years before her retirement in 2005.
Taly had a passion for traveling especially when it came to visits back home to Chile. Many of her other favorite destinations included South America, the Caribbean Islands, Canada, Mexico, and trips to Atlantic City to see shows such as Iglesias, Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler, and Celine Dion to name a few.
Family was always Taly’s greatest priority and joy. She demonstrated this through love, endless support, and compassion she showered them with. Her grandchildren, Victoria, Vanessa, and Evan brought her happiness and joy. Fond memories include spending time together, enjoying home cooked meals, and playing games. She had a habit of trying to see cards everyone else was holding! Always proud of their accomplishments, she would be a daily and beloved presence in their lives. She would always encourage them to reach their dreams. “Nothing can stop you” she would say and they knew she was right, as she exemplified this herself. Taly was known to her family as a woman with immense strength, patience and understanding. She was a devout Catholic with a deep faith in God that was present throughout her entire life. She will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Taly was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband of 51 years, Anthony P. Bonner in 2014, her parents, Cesaer and Basalisa Correa, siblings, Bernarda, Berta, Alicia, Leela, and Pedro Correa. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa Drews and husband, Douglas, son, Anthony Michael Bonner, her 3 adored grandchildren, Victoria Drews and husband Adam Engelson, Vanessa Drews, and Evan Drews, 3 sisters, Clara Correa, Patricia Thomson and husband, John, and Zemiera Onnema and husband Dominick. Also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
Deep gratitude to Season’s Hospice, the staff on 6E of Christiana Care, the Helen Graham Oncology Express Unit, the many friends and family who supported Taly and her family. Thank you all.
A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, October 28, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass in Taly’s honor will be offered on Friday, October 29 at 10:00 am at the Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich Parish at St. Andrew Church, 10 West 4th Street Bayonne.
