Eliza Popowski Obituary

Eliza Popowski entered into eternal rest peacefully on March 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Vilnius, Poland, she immigrated to the United States in 1979 and had been a resident of Bayonne for 45 years. Throughout her career, Eliza demonstrated her exceptional skills as a seamstress at the garment company, Bayonne Fashion.

Eliza was an extraordinary woman whose life exemplified selflessness and unwavering commitment to others. Her generosity was truly remarkable as she tirelessly supported her family and friends in both Poland and the United States, ensuring they had the resources they needed to thrive.

The highlight of Eliza's life was her family, and her kitchen was the heart of her home, filled with warmth and joyfully prepared home-cooked meals for gatherings and celebrations. Proud of her Polish heritage, she looked forward to returning to Poland each year to reconnect with her loved ones and strengthen family connections.

A woman of deep faith, Eliza often sought solace in prayer, turning to God as her guiding light. Her devotion brought her comfort and served as a source of inspiration and support for everyone in her life.  Known affectionately as “Pani Babcia” by the Salvatorian Fathers, she welcomed them with open arms and delighted them with her traditional Polish meals, leaving a lasting impression through her hospitality and love.

Eliza was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband, Aleksander (2006), her parents, Aleksander and Stanislawa (Szablinski) Koniuszewski, and her three brothers, Ludwik, Tadeusz, and Edward. Her legacy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Iwona Cichocki, and her husband Marek; her son, Marek Popowski, and his wife Sophie; her grandchildren, Adam and his wife Lisa; Monica and her husband Russell, and Matthew and his wife Crista, along with her three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Emma, and Theo Lilly. Eliza is also survived by her extended family in the United States, Poland, and Germany, who will miss her deeply.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Friday, March 14, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Gregorz Podsiadlo, Fr. Pawel Dolinski, and Fr. David Adamkiewicz officiating in Polish at St. John Paul II Parish (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church), located at 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne.
