Estelle M. (Stella) Gers (nee: Szot) 98, of Bayonne, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2020 after a long and meaningful life well lived.
Prior to her retirement, Stella was a dining room hostess for the Exxon Corporation and the Hi-Hat Caterers in Bayonne. A communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, she was a dedicated member of the Mt. Carmel PTA and actively participated in the school cafeteria preparing homemade lunches for the students.
Stella’s greatest joy was her family, and quality times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
Known for her exceptional cooking skills, Stella’s home was always filled with warmth and hospitality as she made every occasion special. She treasured “Tuesday family dinner nights” and getaways at her Manahawkin summer home where she enjoyed crabbing and cooking the catch of the day. Stella embodied pure beauty inside and out and will be missed and remembered dearly by all who were privileged to have known her.
Stella was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter (Wally), son Richard, siblings, Amelia Tozzi, Helen Ruge, and John Szot. Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mary, her daughter-in-law Patricia (Richard), grandchildren Jason (Loretta), Jeremy (Alexandra), and Patrick (Jessica), and great-grandchildren, Jenna, Dylan, Mia, and Veronica.
A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday morning from 9:45 to 11:45 am followed by a funeral mass in Stella's honor at St. John Paul II Parish, 39 East 22nd Street, at 12 noon. Entombment: Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be most appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
I Said A Prayer For You Today
I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke no word!
I didn't ask for wealth or fame
(I knew you wouldn't mind).
I asked him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!
I asked that He be near you
At the start of each new day;
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way!
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small.
But it was for His loving care
I prayed the most of all!
