Helen Donaghy (nee: Gadus) of Bayonne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, at Peace Care St. Ann's Home in Jersey City. Born in Fayette, Pennsylvania, she moved to Bayonne where she resided for most of her life.
Helen was a woman of strength, love and faith who devoted herself as a caregiver to her beloved husband and mother. She set a shining example not only for her children but her entire family. She was an amazing grandmother with a deep and unconditional love for her grandsons Robby and Mikey. She treasured quility time with them and always made sure her home was filled with warmth and laughter as she joyfully prepared her famous mac and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. By the end of the visits with her grandsons she was notorious for not letting them leave without a bag of candy and a soda, and would say to them, “Don’t tell your mom”
Helen's favorite pastimes and interests included reading, playing the lottery and Friday night family card games. She will be sorely missed but will remain in the hearts of all who had the good fortune to know her.
A sincere thank you goes out to the loving caregivers at Peace Care St. Ann's Home who made Helen’s last year’s happy and the best they could be.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband William (in 1980), her sisters, Marie, Ann, and Elizabeth, and brothers, George and Michael. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Kathy Laurich and husband Robert, her sons, William and Brian Donaghy, her grandsons, Robert and Michael Laurich, and many nieces and nephews.
After Glow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when day is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, funeral services will be privately held.
