Irene S. Fleck (nee: Barcik), a vibrant soul who brought joy and love to everyone around her, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Born in Hamburg, Germany, she immigrated with her family to the United States at the tender age of 3 and resided in Bayonne for most of her life.
Before her retirement in 2018, Irene possessed limitless determination in various positions of employment over the years including the Bayonne Military Ocean Terminal where she worked as a shipping clerk for 26 years until its closure in 1999. She continued in the workforce for the next several years as a secretary for the New York Housing and Urban Development Commission, the law offices of Schaldron, Camaraga & O'Connor in Jersey City, and the IKEA Corporation.
Irene had many passions and interests, each of which played a unique role in her remarkable journey in life. She found happiness in the beauty of nature and cultivated her garden of lush greenery and vibrant flowers (with roses being her favorite). In her younger years, she took great pleasure in dancing to the hits of disco music. A health and fitness enthusiast, Irene believed in proper nutrition and staying fit by hiking and savoring moments in the great outdoors. Known for her acts of kindness towards injured animals and strays, her compassion for them was a true testament to her nurturing spirit as she never turned away an animal in need. In her quiet time, nothing warmed her heart more than being in the company of her beloved cats, Rusty, Buster, Bob, and Pepper, and her canine friend, Molly (a Sheppard/Lab mix).
Irene's life was strongly defined by her unwavering trust in God and her daily rosary prayer guided and sustained her with peace and assurance. Although her passing leaves a profound void, her presence and wonderful legacy will be remembered for all eternity by her proud and devoted daughter Stephanie Fleck, who brought unspeakable joy to her Irene's life, along with Stephanie's boyfriend, Thomas Paradine Jr., and her companion and longtime love, Wayne Rossiter. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanislaw and Jennie (Druciarek) Barcik and her brother, Henry.
A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass in Irene's honor will be offered on Wednesday, November 22, at 10:30 a.m. from the Parish of St. John Paul II, 39 East 22nd St., Bayonne. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
God looked around His garden,
and found an empty place,
He then looked down upon this earth,
and saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you,
and lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
He knew that you were sufferinmg,
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never,
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered,
“Peace Be Thine”
It broke our heart to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories
Your love is stil our guide.
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
