James Dove Obituary

James Anthony Dove, a devoted husband, caring father and grandfather, and loyal friend, entered into eternal rest peacefully at home on October 28, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Bladenboro, North Carolina, and raised in Lumberton, James moved to Bayonne ten years ago, where he lived for many wonderful years.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, James honorably served his country from 1979 to 1983 with unwavering devotion. Following his military service, he built a long and respected career as a computer software developer with Global Associates in Dayton, Ohio, where his colleagues remember him as a hardworking man known for his precision and expertise.

A reserved and gracious gentleman by nature, James approached life with genuine sincerity.  He had a passion for music and was once a member of a talented group of musicians known as the “Southern Rock Band,” based in Tampa, Florida. Baseball was a favorite pastime for James, one that brought him happiness and shared memories with those he was close to. His favorite team was the New York Yankees, and he especially enjoyed attending games in the Bronx with his daughter. He was a longtime member of the Strat-O-Matic Club in Staten Island, where members played statistical baseball card games using mathematical strategies.

James treasured the life he built with his wife, Suzanne, and the family they nurtured together. He shared an enduring bond with his daughter, Kourtney James, and his grandson, Noah Dove, who brought happiness and purpose to his life. During their years together, James and Suzanne formed a close connection with Ryan Tank, a young man who became an important part of their lives. They warmly welcomed him into their home, embracing him as family and treating him with the same care and affection they would their own child. The unity they shared as a family reflected the kindness and strength of James’s character, and their compassion created a sense of belonging within their home.

James will be remembered always with love and gratitude and will remain in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.  He was predeceased by his father, Dulon Dove, and his stepfather, Ed Caulder.  Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Suzanne (Summers) Dove; his beloved mother, Pauline (Merritt) Caulder; his children, Kourtney James and Ryan Tank; his adored grandson, Noah Dove; and his brothers, Scott Caulder and Derek Caulder.

In keeping with James's wishes, cremation was private. Military honors will take place at the General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey on November 18.

The Measure of a Man

The measure of a man

is not in the years he lived,

but in the love he gave,

the kindness he shared,

and the memories he leaves behind.

It is found in the quiet strength

that steadied those around him,

in the laughter he inspired,

and the comfort he brought to those he cared for.

Though his presence is gone,

the goodness he shared remains

a gentle reminder of a life well lived

and a heart deeply loved.
