The thrill of horse racing also brought him excitement, as he often explored different racetracks in New Jersey and New York. Above all, Jim cherished his family deeply. He treasured the moments spent visiting his daughter in Wildwood, and the trips to the Atlantic City casinos that brought him happiness and anticipation.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen; his parents, Stanley and Bertha (Sokolowski) Sykowski; his sister, Maryjane Sykowski; his uncle, Henry Sokolowski; and his brother-in-law, Frank Base. He is survived by his daughter, Michele Hurley (Vincent), his sons, Steven and Scott Sykowski, Daniel Sykowski (Grace), his sister, Dolores Base, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In honoring Jim's wishes, there will be no visiting hours at the funeral home. A funeral mass in his honor will be offered on Tuesday, April 29, at 10:30 AM at St. John Paul II Parish, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
Amen.
