Jerzy Glazewski Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jerzy "Jurek / George / Tatus / Dziadzi" Glazewski. Our loving father passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, surrounded by his devoted wife of 55 years and his family.

Jurek was born in Poland, immigrated to the USA in early adulthood, and lived an extraordinary life filled with adventure, love, and laughter. Through his hard work, dedication, and unwavering loyalty to his family, he epitomized the American Dream.

Jurek spent 37 years as a deli manager and butcher at Steve's ShopRite on 4th Street in Bayonne, NJ. Despite his demanding schedule and willingness to work overtime, he always made time for his loved ones.  Jurek was a longtime dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and the Mount Carmel Lyceum. As a proud father of three Eagle Scouts, he found joy and fellowship in fundraising for Troop-19 by making Palm Crosses each year.

He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity, compassion, and curiosity, impacting everyone who knew him. When asked, "How are you?" he genuinely cared about the answer and listened intently.  Jurek loved gardening, especially roses and Jersey tomatoes. In his younger years, he played for Vistula Soccer Club and remained a lifelong sports fan. His Polish pride was unwavering, and he proudly marched in the New York City Pulaski Day Parade wearing his Krakowiak outfit.

Jurek was one of the most loyal, caring, and inclusive people you could ever meet. Walking the streets of Bayonne with him, it felt like he knew everyone, and everyone knew him. It was common for him to say for so many people we encountered together something like "How's Brian? His parents ordered 1lb. Land O' Lakes Yellow and 1lb Virginia Ham every Saturday." He never missed reading the local newspaper, even if it meant reading several weeks of accumulated publishings after returning to Bayonne from an extended trip. He was proud of his Bayonne community and grateful for the many meaningful relationships with neighbors and all the friends he made during his daily bike rides around town.

Jurek's legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have known him. As we bid farewell to Jurek, we take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved and the countless lives he touched along the way.

Jurek is survived by his beloved Lillian (nee: Humenik); his sons, John (Jasiu) and his wife Kathleen; Chester (Czesiu) and his wife Sheila; and Joseph (Joziu) and his wife Marzena; and his adored grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel, Kristopher, and Caitlin. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jan and Zofia (Gadomska) Glazewski.

A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, June 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. On Friday morning, June 28, all are welcome to gather at the funeral home before leaving for St. John Paul II Parish for a 10:30 a.m. funeral mass in Jurek's honor. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, where Jurek will be laid to rest.
