Joan Hilinsky entered into eternal rest peacefully at her son's home on Monday, October 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Jersey City, Joan spent the majority of her life in Bayonne before relocating to Brick, NJ, in 1985. She devoted numerous years of diligent service as a clerk at the Maidenform Company of Bayonne.
Joan and her husband Bernie were true adventurers at heart, passionately exploring the world both domestically and abroad. Their travels took them to notable destinations such as Norway, Russia, and the tropical paradises of the Bahamas, among others. In her relaxing getaways to Florida, Joan reveled in unique shopping experiences and sightseeing, while Bernie seized every chance to watch the New York Yankees in their spring training sessions. In her free time, she enjoyed browsing her favorite retail stores and treating herself to the latest finds on the Home Shopping Network. She also took pleasure in her much-anticipated trips to Atlantic City to test her luck at the slot machines.
Nothing brought Joan greater joy than the cherished moments spent with her beloved family, particularly during the heartwarming festivities of the holiday season.
While Joan’s presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all those whose lives she touched.
Joan was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband of 58 years, Bernard (Bernie) Hilinsky; her parents, James and Pauline (Thies) Gardner; her daughter, Paula Matos, son William “Billy” Hilinsky; her sister, Ann Gardner; and brothers, Robert and William Gardner. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa Alexander; her son Richard “Ricky” Hilinsky and his wife, Kathleen “Sissy”; her son-in-law, David Matos; her ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Friday morning, October 18, from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., followed by an 11:30 a.m. funeral mass at St. John Paul II Parish, 39 West 22nd Street, Bayonne. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
Mother
God took the fragrance of a flower,
The majesty of a tree,
The gentleness of morning dew,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The beauty of the sunlight hour,
The soul of a starry night,
The laughter of a rippling brook,
The grace of a bird in flight,
The tender care of an angel,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family's need,
Then God fashioned from these
things a creation of no other,
And when His masterpiece was through
He simply called it Mother.
