John Gleason, Esq. Obituary

John P. Gleason Esq., longtime attorney and founding partner of the Gleason & Koatz Law Firm in New York City, entered into eternal rest peacefully on January 22, 2024, with his loving family by his side.  Born in Newark, NJ, he resided in Bayonne then Manhattan before settling in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

A graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law and the University of Paris, John's distinguished legal career as a litigator spanned more than 40 years, before his retirement in 2022.  His tireless dedication and exceptional legal guidance earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients.

John led a fascinating life filled with travel and adventure both domestically and abroad including trips to Paris (where he and his wife Leona lived for 5 years), as well as Russia, Rome and Alaska, and many relaxing getaways at his summer residence in Woodstock, New York where he enjoyed the outdoors and swimming.
An avid reader, John's thirst for knowledge knew no bounds as he immersed himself in many good books over the years. In his leisure time he took immense joy in socializing and dining out with family and friends, and also loved rooting for the New York Yankees and Notre Dame Football.

Beyond his professional achievements, John was a loving and devoted husband and father who exemplified guidance, wisdom, and endless encouragement. He leaves behind a rich legacy that will forever remain etched in the hearts of his proud family and the countless lives he touched.

John's colleagues from the Gleason & Koatz Law Firm mourn the loss of a friend, leader, and mentor, who helped establish and nurture the firm's highest commitment to excellence that will continue to carry on.

John was the loving son of the late William and Helen (Zingg) Gleason, and the dear brother of the late Joan Gleason.  Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 42 years, Leona, his children, Gabrielle and David, and his brother-in-law, Fr. Stephen Kopacz.

A funeral mass in John's honor will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m., from the Parish of St. John Paul II, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
