John Helbig Obituary

John August Helbig passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Bayonne Medical Center.  Born in Jersey City, he moved to Bayonne 25 years ago where he has since resided.

John's strong work ethic and dedication led to a 30-year position as a mail handler with the United States Postal Service's Jersey City Bulk Mail Center before his retirement in 2014.  He also served as shop steward for the Postal Workers Union.

With sports being a big part of his life, John held season tickets to his favorite sporting events including the New York Jets and the New Jersey Devils.

John was the loving son of the late August and June (Petitt) Helbig. Left to cherish his memory are his dearly beloved wife, Sandra (Swinson) Helbig, son Christopher Helbig; two sisters, Janice Greten and Lydia Mackintosh; two nieces, Shana Mecchi and Melissa Blackburn; and two nephews, William Campbell and Brian Greten.

Remember Me

Remember me whenever you see a sunrise.
Remember me whenever you see a star.

Remember me whenever you see a rainbow,
or woods in Autumn colors from afar.
Remember me whenever you see roses,
or seagulls sailing high in a sky of blue.

Remember me whenever you see waves
shining in the sun. Remember me and
I’ll be remembering you!

Remember me
whenever you see a teardrop or meadows
still wet with morning dew. Remember
me when you feel love growing in your
heart and remember I’ll be remembering
you!
