John S. Maryak, 87, a lifelong Bayonne resident, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 1, 2019 at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa.
A proud and patriotic man, John served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his extraordinary heroism and bravery.
After completing his military duties, John returned to Bayonne and took a position as a sheet metal mechanic with the Sheet Metal Workers International Association in Hackensack, a career that would span for 30 years before his retirement in 1994.
John was a member of the F.A. MacKenzie Post #165, the Korean War Veterans Association of Hudson County, and the Mt. Carmel Seniors Club.
With a natural born talent for woodworking and home construction, John had every tool imaginable to complete any project he set his mind to, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand as he shared his exceptional knowledge while joyfully giving his time to others.
His favorite destination throughout the years was vacationing in Lake George, NY., and enjoying the sights. Above his many accomplishments in life he was most proud of his family and his love for them was unwavering. He will be dearly missed and remembered by all who knew and respected him.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife Ann (nee: Sokolowski) in 2001, his parents, Alexander and Mary (nee: Domanski), and his sister Mary Cummings. Left to cherish his wonderful legacy are his sons and their spouses, Gregory F. (Christine), Kenneth (Barbara), and Ronald (Ethel), his sister Stella Kowalczyk, his two grandchildren, Kristen and Brandi Maryak, and three great-grandchildren, Desiree Maryak, Taylor Zimmerman, and Margaret Pound.
A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, November 9, from 8:30 am to 10:45 am. A funeral mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Parish of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
