John R. Nelson Sr., 88, of Bayonne, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Bayonne Medical Center. Born in Jersey City, he resided his whole life in Bayonne.
A man of honor, integrity and intense patriotism, John served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. With his military duties fulfilled, he began his 45 year career as a chemist for the D.A. Stuart Oil Company then for the Industrial Tube Corporation, both located in Somerville, NJ.
All who knew John would agree that he possessed a kind spirit and zest for life. He enjoyed listening to all types of music, especially the tunes of Country Western and the Golden Oldies Doo-Wop. He was a diehard sports fan with football being his favorite. In his leisure time he took a particular interest in collecting military memorabilia. Above all, John was deeply devoted to his family and treasured spending time with them. He leaves behind a timeless legacy that his loved ones will proudly carry on.
John was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Florence (nee: Warnock) Nelson, his siblings and their spouses, Murial Dembowski (Joseph), Marylou Nelson, Florence N. Kosakowski (Stanley) , Henry Nelson Jr. (Helen), Richard Nelson (Arlene), William Nelson, Thomas Nelson (Elizabeth) and Herbert T. Nelson (Loretta) and all his beloved pets who brought him joy through the years and carried a special place in his heart. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Eleanor (nee: Beym), three daughters, Cynthia Wandel and husband Frederick, Maureen Nelson, and Debra Nelson (fiancé of the late John Weaver), one son, John Nelson Jr. and his wife Geraldine, and his three adored grandchildren, Kyle John, Michael Christopher and Andrew James. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Monday morning, October 5, from 9:30 am to 11:45 am., followed by a funeral mass in John's honor at 12:00 pm from the Parish of St. John Paul II at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
