John Woolley, 94, of Bayonne, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Bayonne Medical Center with his loving family at his side. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, he resided in Bayonne for the past 62 years.
John served his country with pride and honor in the United States Navy during WWII. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed as a baker for the Continental Baking Company in East Brunswick for 32 years, and then went on to the Carroll Security Agency in Bayonne for 20 years.
A man of strong Catholic faith, John was honored in 2014 as a Pillar of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for his lifelong dedication and service. He also served as usher and lecturer for many years and was past president of the Holy Name Society and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Seniors and a lifetime member of the Mt. Carmel Lyceum. As an active member of the community, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus #371 and the Concerned Citizens. John was honored as the 2004 Bayonne Contingent Marshal of the Pulaski Parade Memorial Committee where he was an active member for many years along with his wife Julia.
John was predeceased by his sister Mary McDeed and his brother George. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife Julia (Kochanek) 2 sons, Kenneth and his wife Dara, and Thomas Woolley, 3 grandsons, Christopher, Kyle and Ryan; and 2 brothers, Vincent and William.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 15, 2017, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral mass in John’s honor will be offered on Tuesday, May 16, at 10:00 AM at St. John Paul II Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
