Joseph R. Bawiec, “Joe”, a lifelong Bayonne resident passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Bayonne Medical Center.
Joe served his country proudly in the United States Army. After completing his military duties, he began his career as a blue seal engineer for Western Electric in Kearny. Following 30 years of loyalty and dedication with Western Electric, Joe accepted his well-deserved retirement and embarked on the next chapter of his life.
He married the love of his life, Rita, (nee: Zakutansky), and the couple spent 59 glorious years of wedded bliss before her passing. Their treasured memories included family vacations and cruises to Alaska, Bermuda, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, as well as trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas and many wonderful visits to Arizona and Delaware to visit their children and grandchildren.
Joe was a member of the Bayonne Senior Orchestra where his musical talent of playing the accordion and singing was appreciated by many.
The most important of all priorities in Joe’s life was the love and closeness he shared with his family. He was a devoted husband, nurturing father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed and remembered for his warm smile and gentle nature. If you were lucky enough to know Joe you were blessed to have met a truly one-of-a-kind gentleman.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Linda Bawiec, son, Joseph G. Bawiec and his wife, Paula, his grandchildren, Kaitlin Wallace and her husband Riley, and Lauren Bawiec and her boyfriend, Brandon Lee, his great-granddaughter, Peyton Rose Wallace, niece, Amanda Rapczynski and her fiancé, Jeremiah Sullivan, nephews, Richie and Sonny Fogu, grandniece, Penelope Rose Sullivan, grandnephews, Joshua James Rapczynski, and Daniel Joseph Sullivan, and his sister-in-law, Deborah Rapczynski.
Joe was predeceased by his dearly beloved wife, Rita, his parents, Joseph and Mary (Macierzonka) Bawiec, siblings, Mary Fogu, Matthew and Andy Bawiec, niece, Samantha Rapczynski, nephews, Tommy Fogu and Peter Rapczynski, and brothers-in-law, Gary Adamiak and Frank Rapczynski.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Monday, September 6, 2021, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
A funeral mass in Joe's honor will be offered on Tuesday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Parish of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, officiated by Fr. Lukasz Kleczka. Interment will follow at the family burial plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Devarajan Iyengar for his exceptional care, patience, and kindness towards their beloved father.
