Josephine Magda

July 31, 1927 ~ September 12, 2023 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Obituary

Josephine Magda (nee: Cicalese) departed this life peacefully at the blessed age of 96 on September 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Newark, New Jersey, she grew up in the Ironbound section (historically called "Dutch-Neck".)

From a young age, Josephine helped out on the family farm by taking care of the horses and doing her share of chores.  After moving to Bayonne years later, she worked as a switchboard operator for the Western Electric Company in Kearny, a position she held for 42 years.

Josephine's fasination for horses grew over the years as she enjoyed life's simple pleasures with her husband at  Monmouth Park Racetrack to watch the races and test her luck.

Nothing enriched Josephine's life more than spending time with her family and caring for the needs of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved the holiday season and made every family gathering perfect with her signature dinners and desserts.  In her quiet time, she took joy in sewing, a hobby she had a great talent in.

Josephine's genuine warmth brightened the lives of everyone she encountered, and her presence and wonderful legacy will be remembered for all eternity.

Left to cherish her memory are her dearly beloved husband of 50 years, Edward, son John (Caroline), sister Patricia McInerney, her grandchildren, Kristen and Michael (Danielle), and great-grandchildren, Cailyn, Rhys, and Savanah.  She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Rosaria (Casabura) Cicalese, and many siblings.

Cremation was privately held at Rosehill Crematory in Linden.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 25, at 11:30 a.m. located at the family burial plot at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City.
