Joyce Hughes, (nee: Reyes), 48, of Bayonne, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Bayonne Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Born in Long Island, New York, Joyce moved to the Philippines as a young girl where she attended the University of Santo Thomas earning her degree in Psychology. She returned to the United States in 1991 where she resided in Queens, New York before settling in Bayonne 19 years ago to raise her family. Joyce was employed as a healthcare technician at the VA Harbor Healthcare Hospital in Manhattan, NY, a position she held for many years. A devout Catholic, Joyce taught religion classes at Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich Parish (St. Mary Star of the Sea) Bayonne. Joyce had a love for music and a passion for singing. She will be remembered by many for the tremendous pride she took in her Filipino heritage. She will live on through her precious daughters and will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Joyce was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gene E. Hughes in 2011, and her parents, Lucas Reyes and Anacleta (Guzman). Left to cherish her wonderful legacy are her daughters, Bianca and Candace; her sister Eleanor Reyes Cabalbag and her husband Carl and their daughter Abigail; her sister-in-law Sabrina Hughes Tate and her brother-in-law Reggie Hughes. Also survived by many dear friends. A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home, 20 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, on Friday, October 21, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Catholic religious service to be held at 7:30 pm conducted by Rev. Philip Sanders. Cremation will be private.
