Keith Nostrant Obituary

Commander Keith R. Nostrant USN, Retired, beloved husband, father, grandfather, a good friend and neighbor to many, and dedicated servant of our Nation, passed away suddenly on September 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of patriotism and devotion.

Born in Albany, NY, Keith was raised in Verona, NJ, by his loving parents, Merrill Raymond Nostrant (deceased) and Dorothy Anna (Moore) Nostrant (deceased). It was in New Jersey with his three siblings, Bill McKnight, Bruce McKnight Sr. (deceased), and Deborah (Nostrant) Walsh, where he cultivated an enduring love for his country, the ocean, and life's simple pleasures.

Known for his calm demeanor and playful spirit, Keith adored everything about life. A proud member of the United States Naval Academy Class of '74 (graduated in ’75 – due to his “playful spirit”), Keith embarked on a distinguished career in the Navy that spanned over 20 years. His service took him across coastlines and continents, from the warm shores of Georgia to the historic ports of Virginia, all the way to the vibrant landscapes of California and Japan – to name a few. Keith’s commitment to his duty and to his fellow servicemen was unwavering, earning him respect and admiration from all who served alongside him. He carried his service beyond retirement from the Navy into a career supporting our Nation’s interest and our allies through foreign military sales for IFS in Bayonne, NJ, and New York Forwarding Services Inc. in Berkeley Heights, NJ as President, Air Division.

Keith was the devoted husband to Malgorzata (Gosia) Kosc-Nostrant and the loving father to three sons, Michael (m. Rochelle – c. Shane and Owen), David (m. Natalie – c. Veda) and Lukasz Kosc (m. Kasia c. Olivia and Gabriella). Keith embraced every part of their lives, sharing his passions and teachings while creating cherished memories they will hold dear forever. He is also survived by his former wife, Linda Nostrant (Hess), beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces. In addition to his family, Commander Nostrant was a mentor to many young sailors and civilians, helping them navigate their careers and lives.

Keith had a particular fondness for the beach (especially Stone Harbor, NJ), relishing the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun. An avid NY sports enthusiast, he cheered passionately for his teams, instilling in his family the same fervor for the NY teams no matter what state or country life took them.

Keith leaves behind a legacy that celebrates not just his remarkable service to the Navy but also his strong character, quick wit, and profound love for family—especially his dogs (never cats) throughout life who brought him endless joy and companionship — most recently his cherished grand pup Benji. Though he is no longer with us, Keith's spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered.
