Maria Rigalska passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity. Born in Płońsk, Poland, she immigrated to the United States with her family, where they settled in Bayonne.
Maria had a strong work ethic and was a gifted seamstress, known for her precision, creativity, and dedication. She also possessed an extraordinary talent for cooking, which she shared with pride through her family-owned delicatessen. The business became a local favorite, known for its delicious sandwiches, fresh salads, and authentic homemade Polish dishes. Her cooking was deeply appreciated by the community, and her pierogies in particular were a favorite among customers, remembered for their traditional flavor and homemade quality.
Maria exemplified selflessness and generosity. She was the kind of person who would give her last dollar to help someone in need. Her warmth and humility left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
A determined go-getter, Maria approached every goal with courage and strength. Deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, she found inspiration and comfort in her relationship with God and was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Her beautiful singing voice enriched various church choirs throughout the years, bringing joy and light through music and fellowship. Sundays were especially dear to her. After mass, she loved gathering with friends at her home, preparing lunch, and playing card games filled with laughter.
Maria’s sense of humor and adventurous spirit made her a joy to be around. Whether trying her luck with the lottery or enjoying the excitement of Atlantic City, she embraced life fully and with a smile.
Maria was predeceased by her beloved parents, Piotr and Franciszka Raczkowski, as well as her brothers, Tadeusz, Stanley, and Karol Raczkowski. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Elizabeth Spiechowski and Sophie Galloway, her husband, Norman, her son, Andrew Rigalski, and his wife, Donna, and many dear friends. Maria was a proud, loving, and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to Jennifer Galloway, Laura Principato (Antoni), Lisa Ospina (Johnny), Lauren Latif (Rafay), Dominic Ospina, and Alex Principato.
A memorial mass to honor Maria will be held at St. John Paul II Parish of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Wednesday, June 25, at 11:00 AM, followed by inurnment of ashes at Holy Name Mausoleum in Jersey City.
