Shannon Matos Obituary

The family of Shannon Matos announces with deep sadness her unexpected passing on September 14, 2025. A lifelong resident of Bayonne, Shannon found joy and purpose in helping others, primarily through her work at the Bayonne Recreation Ability Day Camp, where she touched many lives with her compassion and warmth. With a natural ability to connect with children, Shannon made a lasting difference and was admired for her patience and care. Most recently, she was enrolled at Fulton Montgomery Community College in Amsterdam, New York, continuing her dedication to helping others.

Shannon had a deep passion for traveling, enjoying trips to Lake George and Wildwood, along with beloved visits to family in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her lifelong love for animals, particularly giraffes, highlighted her compassionate spirit. In her quiet moments, she found comfort in a good book, immersing herself in stories that brought her inspiration.  A proud and active member of the Bayonne Elks Lodge, she built strong bonds and meaningful connections. Above all, Shannon's family was her greatest treasure, and their love and shared experiences will forever keep her spirit alive in their hearts.

Shannon was the beloved daughter of the late Michele Matos (nee: Levinson) and adored granddaughter of the late Jay and Mary Levinson and the late John and Kathy Matos. Left to cherish her memory are her father, John, and his wife, Misty; her sisters, Jessica Matos, Megan Semeniak and her son, Jayden, and Rebecca Semeniak; her brother, CJ Semeniak; her aunt and uncle, Debbie and Stan Wagner, and their children, David, Kate, and Matthew, her aunt Kelly Matos; her aunt and uncle, Alyson and Gary Byrne and their children, Zachary and Kiera Byrne, along with many additional cousins and dear friends.

A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 23, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A prayer service, offered by Fr. John Fencik, Pastor of St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, will take place during visiting hours. Cremation will be private.

In Loving Memory of Shannon Matos

Your kindness was a gentle light,

A heart so warm, a soul so bright.

Though you have left this earthly place,

We feel your love, your sweet embrace.

In every laugh, in every song,

Within our hearts, you still belong.

Though miles divide, we’re not apart,

For you remain within each heart.
