Stephen Mallardi Obituary

Stephen D. Mallardi passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Fondly known as “Iggy,” he was born in Brooklyn, New York, and briefly lived in Union City before making Bayonne his home for the past 58 years.

Steve dedicated his career to the field of information technology, making a significant impact at SeaLand Company for 20 years before continuing his journey with CSX Company in New York for another decade. His expertise and commitment made him a valued employee until his retirement.

Steve embraced life to the fullest alongside his wife, Gerri. Together, they created countless unforgettable memories on Brigantine Island at the Jersey Shore during their family getaways as well as visits to the Atlantic City casinos. Steve also had a passion for crabbing, a pursuit that brought him immense enjoyment. He found inspiration in the uplifting music of the Bayonne Summer Sounds by the Bay and enjoyed testing his luck with scratch-off lottery tickets. A proud lifetime member of the Mt. Carmel Lyceum, Steve actively excelled in the Intra Club Bowling League.

Steve's family meant the world to him, especially his role as grandfather. He felt a deep sense of pride in the achievements of his three grandsons, celebrating each milestone with joy and enthusiasm. For Steve, their moments spent together were invaluable as they emphasized the importance of quality interactions and watching sports.

While Steve may no longer be with us in a physical sense, the cherished memories of him will continue through his loving family and his dear friends. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Gladys (nee Cullum) Mallardi. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Gerri (nee Stanislawski) Mallardi; his children, Stephen Mallardi Jr. “Spunky,” Kevin and daughter-in-law Jami Mallardi, Dana and son-in-law Anthony Novielli, and Grandpa's boys, Stephen, Alex, and Jason.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 26, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Thursday, February 27, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon for a final farewell.

Cremation will be private.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Thomas Suczewski, Dr. Edward Suczewski, Dr. Heffernan, Dr. Schulman, Dr. Mughni, and the dedicated nursing staff at Bayonne Medical Center, as well as the remarkable team at Compassionate Care Hospice in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Their exceptional care and unwavering support made a profound difference in Steve's life.

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done

I’d like to leave an echo whispering Softly down the ways

Of happy times and laughing times and bright sunny days

I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
