Thaddeus F. Kopacz, 85, of Bayonne, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the Peace Care of St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Jersey City. “Ted” as he was affectionately known by all, was born in Bayonne and was a lifelong resident. Ted served his country with honor and pride in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After completing his military duties, he was employed as a manager with Food City Supermarket and then Red Apple Supermarket both of Manhattan, New York. Prior to his retirement ten years ago, he was employed as a bookkeeper for the Morrell and Brown Construction Company of Manhattan.
Ted was predeceased by his wife Eleanor (Grzebyk) Kopacz; his parents, John and Catherine (Szpak) Kopacz; 2 sisters, Mary Grohulski and Cecelia Pakstas and his 6 brothers, Joseph, Adam, Chester, Stanley and Edward Kopacz and Alfred Winiarski; and his son-in-law, Robert Sturgill. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Denise Sturgill; his son Todd Kopacz and his longtime companion Jeannie Morrone; his sister Irene Yurko; and his 4 grandchildren, Robert Sturgill Jr., Nicholas Sturgill, Alyssa and Alexis Kopacz.
A visiation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home, 20 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, on Monday, April 3, from 8:45 am to 10:45 am only. A funeral mass in Ted’s honor will follow at 11:00 am at St. John Paul II Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne. A private cremation will follow at Rosehill Crematory in Linden, NJ.
