Thomas Lindsey Obituary

 

Thomas Jeffrey Lindsey, 78, of Afton, New York, passed away peacefully at home with his loving and devoted wife and his faithful Akk, Mischka by his side on Thursday, June 13, 2019, after a courageous battle with asbestosis.  He was born in Bayonne and raised in Staten Island before moving to Inlet, NY, then to Afton, N.Y., where he resided for the past 16 years. 

Tom served his country proudly in the United States Navy for 6 years.  After completing his military service he began his 20 year career as a New York City Police Officer as a pilot on the New York Harbor Patrol Unit C.  He also joined the New Jersey Army National Guard serving for 17 ½ years.  After retiring from the Police Department he became employed with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department operating the lake boat then followed by Park Ranger in the Adirondacks Forest Preserve. 

Throughout the years Tom was an active member of the North Woods Lodge #849 where he served as the Master of the lodge in the year 2000.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Yahnandasis Scottish Rite Valley of Utica.  He was a PUFL member of American Legion Post #1578 in Staten Island and the American Legion Riders #259 of Oneonta, NY.  He was also Vice President of the Blue Knights Chapter NY XI out of Jeffersonville NY and was a Patriot Guard member.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Oliver Lindsey and Amelia Diodato; grandmother Felicia Ignatowicz and his aunts and uncles.  He is survived by his dearly beloved wife Mary Bernardine (nee: Burns) Lindsey; his sister Irene Grohowski and her husband Stanley; two brothers in law, George Burns and his wife Candy and Neil Burns.  Also survived by his nieces and nephews and three children from his previous marriage and eight grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.  A funeral mass will be offered on Friday, June 21, at 10:00 am from the Parish of St. John Paul II at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, NJ.  Interment will follow at the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.

As per Tom’s wishes, please wear blue jeans to the wake and funeral service in honor of his favorite theme song “Forever in Blue Jeans”

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association or the NYC PBA Widows and Children's Fund would be most appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
